Day 18 Se'kara 10,156
Vesutto,
First, let me say it was merely my property, not my person, that was seized. They took the silver-haired slut from me, the barbarian with the lean frame and sturdy legs. The documents were properly prepared and notarized. In addition, there were enough guardsmen waiting my arrival that I did not know whether to feel like a returning hero or a criminal in the city my Home Stone rests. More the latter, frankly. There was not much choice. I know enough about the politics of this city, the way the councils and offices of administration work, how the creditors and moneylenders, the magistrates and statesmen work as one not to press the issue too firmly. It does not mean that I am pleased about having my property seized. She was a recalcitrant little bitch of late and I meant to correct her attitude of the foreign notions she yet harbors. I still do. I am not the strictest of masters, but in her case, I mean to remedy that. To that end, when I was made an offer for her purchase, I declined. If my property is not returned in due time, I will fetch it.
I am not surprised, if it is indeed the case, that Gilberto secured the services of Locutius. He was in attendance at the Sardar production of Fall and also continually in his ear afterward. It is just as well. I have lost the desire to write the epic in which I would have wanted Locutius to play the lead. I have a respectable catalogue from which to draw upon at the moment, so I look forward to your arrival in Ar to finalize our plans. I think, by the way, that the understudies will do well given the chance. They deserve the opportunity to step out from behind the shadows of Locutius of Gor and Nikos of Tyros. Humility has taken them as far as it can in their careers. The Vennan stage is a good place for them to make their mark.
Your offer of a loan is generous, as always, but I am determined to savor the construction of the villa. I have the view that I wanted. I have, too, the startings of a ka-la-na grove and olive orchard. It is more than enough for the moment. I thank you for your continued consideration.
