Departures; Time Well Spent

originally posted July 7, 2006

The last of the visiting Merchants, not including Vesutto of Venna, have departed for their home cities or, at the least, have departed the House of Clark and the city of Thentis. The red-haired fellow with the scarlet tunic and his fellow, the infamous Samos of Port Kar, have left. Too, Prius has gone and with him, the beautiful dancer Selke. Most others did not remain long after the banquet thrown in their honor, in which slaves of the Boarding House, of the infamous Anbar District in Ar, served alongside the trained feast girls of the House of Clark competently. Perhaps it is fair, even, to say that they served well. Recollecting that night has me realizing that we've been guests of the House for at least a portion of four months. We arrived toward the end of En'kara. The second month, that of Hesius, has come and gone. The third month, that of Camerius, too, has passed. Now it is En'var, the First Resting, and I've rested long enough that it, too, is nearly done. That is not to say that the time has been wasteful or, even, uneventful. Quite to the contrary. While here, I renewed the contract of companionship with Arjentia. Clark, master of the House of Clark was good enough to attend. Too, Vesutto, my business partner, wealthy patron of the arts, stood by perplexed as I chose to renew the contract rather than align myself with a wealthy House in Thentis, that of the House of Gerald. The girls I own, all of them, at my command and to their own delight, have not been idle. I have allowed them to be trained in various arts and disciplines during our stay. Some have chosen an instrument, others the fine arts. Some learn slave dance, others one of the various arts relevant to their status. Much as Clark has provided the use of Phais, Tellia and Elsa to the stoic fellow in my party, Mathor, for the duration of our stay, he has not asked to be compensated for the training given to the women I own. He is a generous fellow really. I have, of course, loosened the chains, so to speak, on several of my women that fellows of his House may avail themselves of them.
As of a few days ago, I completed the as yet untitled play that explores something of the reality of the Second Knowledge. After a few practices, I will stage the production for the House of Clark and any Clark chooses to invite. I imagine it will occur in a hand, possibly two. I am eager, you see, to return to Ar. I would like to be home before the first day of Se'kara at any rate.
